From San José

Take the Interamerican North  Highway  toward Guanacaste. 100 meters before the bridge on the Lagartos river, you should stray to right hand, on a unpaved road for around 35 Km. You will pass several towns until arriving to Santa Elena, of there continue to the right toward Monteverde.

You can take a bus at 6:30 AM or at 2:30 PM. You can ask for the old Puntarenas bus stop, at 12th St and 7th-9th av. The morning bus arrives at Lagartos at about 9:30 AM and in Monteverde at about 11:30 AM. The afternoon bus arrives at Lagartos at around 5:30 PM and in Monteverde at around 7:30 PM. ¢2.100 per person each way.

From Guanacaste

Take the highway around the Arenal Lake until arriving to Tilarán, follow the route then until El Dos de  Tilarán and pass by Cabeceras. In this point it is to 45 minutes of Santa Elena and continue 1 km. more until Monteverde.

There are buses from Nicoya, Santa Cruz, Tamarindo, Flamingo, Playas del Coco, the Nicaraguan Border and Liberia. Taking one of these buses, you can go to Lagartos and La Irma and then hop on one of the Monteverde buses.

From Puntarenas

There are 2 buses: one at 1:30 PM and one at 2:15 PM. The 1:30 PM bus arrives at La Irma at about 2:30 PM and in Monteverde at 5:00 PM. The 2:15 PM bus arrives at Lagartos at around 3:00 PM and at Monteverde at around 6:00 PM. ¢1.200 per person each way.

There are three buses: at 4:30 am 4:45 and 6:00 am the last one takes the Lagartos exit and the other goes through Las Juntas and exits through La Irma.
